Cherry Oteri Tragically diagnosed with breast cancer.
Saturday night Live Elam confirmed the diagnosis dear chelsea Talked openly about their close relationship in the podcast last week Dr. Jill Biden. Yes, the former First Lady! According to Cherry, their friendship began when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. When the actress participated Milken Institute Over dinner in April, they bonded over being from neighboring states, but then she became inspired by “all these accomplished, powerful women” discussing health care:
“And I’m just listening and listening to everybody speaking. And it was the strangest thing because I was diagnosed with DCIS, breast cancer. I’m laying there calm, and I’m like, it’s so serendipitous.”

Mayo Clinic Report that DCIS is short for Ductal Carcinoma in Situ, which is a non-invasive, stage 0 breast cancer. It occurs when cancer cells form inside a milk duct in the breast. And although DCIS has a low risk of spreading or becoming life-threatening, it does require surgery to remove the cancer, as well as radiation or hormone therapy for some people.
Cherry went to say goodbye to Jill as the dinner ended, and she decided to tell the former First Lady about her diagnosis and surgery, which was scheduled for April 26. And you know what Dr. Biden did? She decided to stay with Cherry under difficult health circumstances:
“He said, ‘Well, you’ll get tired of me.’ And she says, ‘I’m going through this with you.’ This woman, like before my surgery, after my surgery, she says, ‘I’m with you on this.’ I was astounded.”
The pair remained in constant touch, even going out for coffee together in Los Angeles:
“And so we met at this coffee shop and we just talked for two hours, and she was just a woman with a huge heart, and through everything, she was kind of checking on me and was just a beautiful human being. I’ve never felt so supported.”
Cherry said she assured Jill that she would be fine because her doctors caught it early. She also was not feeling any pain, but she remembered that Jill had replied:
“Joe (Biden) also had no pain.”
The former president has “Aggressive” form of prostate cancerSo upon hearing this from his wife, Cherry joked:
“Okay, now I’m scared! Are you happy? But she was just touching.”
When going through a difficult situation like cancer, you need a strong support system around you. We’re glad Jill could be that for Cherry. Fortunately, Cherry says she is doing well now. May she continue to heal and have a smooth recovery!
