One of the best things about WC to be in America this year is to see European reactions to American ones snacks. So in perhaps the most American recipe since cherry pie, Pringles has released a number of cross-branded flavors for summer 2026.
In Texas, a woman posted a TikTok of her plans for the newest entrants in the potato chip flavor wars. Depending on who you ask, the flavors are either brilliant or complete horror shows.
Groundbreaking: Food that tastes like other foods
Despite looking a little skeptical in her video, Samantha Nyberg (@samanthadistefano1) says, “We’re going to try these.”
Then she pans the camera around. There, sitting on the Walmart shelf, are three cans Pringles. Each has been crossfired with Miller Lite beer and a certain food taste. The flavors are beer-battered onion ring, beer cheeseburger and beer-braised steak.
Nyberg says, “My husband drinks Miller Lite,” so she’ll use him as a taste tester.

Unfortunately, there is no follow-up video. But the internet is fascinated – and impatient. So more than a few users share their experiences and assumptions.
The top comment is from the verified Walmart account that says, “No need to thank me.”
But the gem that quietly encapsulates this special snack-a-licious moment may belong to Livvy (@oliviafontana). She commented, “That sounds gross asf… how much? (staring eyeballs emoji).”
Next, there is a brief debate about the relative (or supposed) health factor of Pringles.
“They are poisonous lol,” said Niesey (juuleeyahgulia).
Olivia (@olivia_.2005) responded rhetorically, writing: “A beer battered onion ring chip supposed to be healthy??”
The consensus on the Pringles flavors is still undecided: There are those who found them “terrible”. Others have an actual favorite. “Yeah omg the burger was my favorite,” shared Nini (@ininikki92).
Infusion of flavor into chips and other foods
If the thought of a beer-battered onion ring chip is offensive, then one haggisflavored chip can be too much to consider. But why are there apparently so many chip flavors available now?
The first flavored potato chips were invented in America in the 1950s. Grill in taste it was a hit. And people wanted more. So food chemists got down to business. Next came flavors such as salt and vinegar, sour cream and onion and shrimp cocktail.
Flavorings such as sour cream or vinegar come primarily from powders that have been flavored. In the case of vinegar, the vinegar is sprayed on a thin layer of maltodextrin (a light, slightly sweet, tasteless powder extracted from starch). It is then dried into a “robust powder” and sprinkled on a chip or crisp, reports Serious eater.
Is it even a chip?
Yet all this food science overlooks an important part of the Pringles story. In the comments, a few people, like Brad Pullins (@bradpullins), note that Pringles aren’t even made from “real potatoes.” Taste of home confirms that “Pringles aren’t chips at all—they’re crisps.”
And it is more than a flavor designation. In the US in 1975, “the FDA decided that the company could only call Pringles ‘chips’ if they recognized the dried potato ingredient. So Pringles decided to use the term ‘chips’.”
On Pringle’s website, the company explains the flavor of the chips. “It’s a waterfall process (spice is sprinkled on) versus a tumbler like other chip processes,” it notes.
In a text message to BroBible, a representative for Kellanova (Pringles’ parent company) declined to discuss the flavoring process. “We really appreciate your enthusiasm for our Pringles® x Miller Lite® collaboration. Unfortunately, details of our flavor development process are confidential,” they said.
The spices themselves are likely made using a process that balances human intervention against technical wizardry. Advances in food chemistry mean that almost any food can be reduced to its chemical components. But balancing these chemicals is less science, more art.
Here’s hoping our friends from across the pond stumble upon a can of beer-soaked onion ring Pringles. And that someone is filming it.
