Pregnant student paralyzed after being shot during robbery


A pregnant high school student in Ohio was left paralyzed after being shot during a robbery, and is now fighting for her life after suffering critical injuries.

The incident took place on Saturday 6th June when angel She and her boyfriend went to 2550 Greenway Ave. to meet someone they connected with on Snapchat, according to a police report seen by. 13 abc.

Upon their arrival, a man dressed all in black approached the couple. She reportedly held a gun to her lover’s head and demanded money. Police said the boyfriend tried to wrestle the gun from the man, who pulled the trigger during a fight and hit 18-year-old Angel.

“The guy pulls the trigger, and it hits my daughter’s left hand and goes through her armpit. Right over the baby – by the grace of God misses the baby – but ends up in her chest,” Angel’s mother, brandy jonestold the outlet.

While the bullet missed the child, Angel was seriously injured.

“She has a spinal fracture at her 12th vertebra, so she’s currently paralyzed. And it’s going to be quite difficult – because she can’t even really use her right arm – and she’s going to have a baby,” Jones said.

The incident also forced Angel to go into early labour, when she was only 26 weeks pregnant.

Angel’s mother said the teen is now struggling to survive. “It’s the worst feeling in the world — watching your child suffer and not being able to do anything about it,” she told the outlet.

No one has been arrested in connection with the shooting and police have not publicly named any suspects. The Toledo Police Department did not immediately respond. us weeklyRequest for comments regarding updates in the case.

After the shooting, Angel’s family set up a gofundme Page to help pay her medical bills.

Jones wrote of Angel’s injuries, “The bullet broke Angel’s arm, went straight through his chest and became stuck there before surgeons could remove him. The blast injury from the gunfire caused a catastrophic fracture of his 12th vertebra, severely damaging his spinal cord.” “Right now, Angel is completely paralyzed from the waist down and has no movement in her legs. Doctors are completely unsure whether she will ever walk again.”

After sharing that she went into early labor, Jones said that “her medical team is working around the clock to slow her contractions.”

“Even though they’ve managed to get them out, they’re treating it as an emergency situation where the baby will be born very quickly,” Jones said. “Angel is being given aggressive medications to make her baby’s brain and lungs grow faster. She currently weighs only 1 pound, 9 ounces. Every day she lives inside of her is a miracle.”

The family said Angel “is in excruciating pain, but her options for relief are severely restricted because her child’s safety comes first.”

“She can’t take anti-inflammatory medications or certain steroids and her pain medications are strictly limited. She spent half of yesterday on a ventilator in case of emergency surgery,” Jones said. “Although she has not been able to eat since Saturday, she is awake and talking.”
