TV presenter Lorraine Kelly has opened up about a difficult period in her personal life and how a particular song helped her recover
Lorraine Kelly has revealed the heart-touching gesture of one of his favorite artists after a serious accident. The TV host was talking about the soundtrack of her life on BBC Radio 2’s Tracks of My Years when she revealed the profound significance behind a particular track selection.
Speaking to Vernon Kay, the 66-year-old said his “favorite song of all time” is Horse McDonald’s Careful. Discussing her selection, Lorraine explained that the singer, who is a dear friend, helped boost her morale during a particularly challenging time.
“The horse is the most extraordinary woman, she has a voice,” he told the host. “Every time I’ve seen him live, it gets right into your soul.
“When I wasn’t well, she came to me. I had a terrible accident and she came to me and she sang that song to me. I could hear her voice, I could hear her singing in the garden, so I thought Steve (her husband) would be playing a song in the garden, and she was there singing to me,” the Glasgow-born host continued.
She added, “To be honest, I was bawling my eyes out, it was amazing.” “My husband arranged for her to come. She’s a friend, but her coming to me and singing because I wasn’t in a good place was amazing. She’s someone I support a lot.”
Lorraine did not clarify which accident she was referring to, although in 2012, she revealed that she had come “close to death” after a horse-riding accident.
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the NHS, the ITV star paid tribute to the “wonderful” staff at St George’s Hospital, south London, who looked after him after his accident.
During his visit, he met consultant Sara Krishnanandan, who was among the medical professionals who cared for him while he was on the way to the hospital.
Ms Krishnanandan revealed that the presenter had arrived with a “deep wound” on her thigh and had “probably lost a lot of blood” after being trampled by her horse.
“I am one of many people who are helped by this incredible service on a daily basis,” Lorraine shared.
The presenter’s daughter Rosie Smith, who was visiting her mother in hospital at the time, also paid her tribute to the staff.
“When I saw him for the first time I realized how serious it was for the first time,” Rosie shared. “She was really pale. The staff was amazing and the nurses were great. Martin made my mom feel comfortable and he made me and my dad feel really comfortable.”
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV and ITVX
