When you throw a batch chicken nuggets in the oven you expect a quick, easy and delicious meal. For one TikToker, however, this snack changed to chaos.
Denver TikTok user Abby Smith (@abbyyysmith) started the video in shock. “I was just making some chicken nuggets, I took it out of the oven to turn them over and a bunch of black liquid came squirting out of this corner… all over my apartment,” she said.
As she says this, she zooms the camera out. Black liquid can be seen dripping from the walls and collecting on the floor. “I’m really at a loss for words,” she admitted.
“I don’t understand how this happened,” she added, showing users the black drips on the sides of the kitchen. Then she picked up the tray in the sink, more black liquid dripping from it. “Like, who cares.”
“I know it’s doubly isolated, but this has literally never happened to me in my entire life,” Smith continued. “And my mother gave me this pan and had it throughout my childhood, all my life.”
The video was accompanied by text on the screen that read: “Things that happen to me when I’m already overstimulated.”
Clearly someone didn’t follow the route Recipe for homemade McDonald’s chicken nuggets.
BroBible contacted Smith via direct message on TikTok.
What did commenters say?
The commentators were very opinionated.
“Bestie, pans aren’t that expensive,” someone wrote. “People are holding on to these things like their wartime savings bonds. Treat yourself to a new pan, girl.”
“It’s a two-layer (insulated) baking tray, great for cookies,” a second commented. “It’s not dishwasher or soak safe. I wouldn’t use it for chicken nuggies. It also looks pretty worn, so maybe replace it.”
A third agreed, writing: “Zinc water, rust, bacteria pouring out of a rusted corner hole because they are so old, lol time to buy a new pan bestie.”
While a fourth joked: “Girl that was the dipping sauce for the tops.”
What was it?
Another commenter wrote: “Chasing raw in the pan without foil was a choice.”
In response, Smith made, among other things, a follow-up to set the record straight.
She started with the pan itself. Smith said that while she knew the pan was typically used for baking/cooling, she believed it was a “pan of last resort.” She had already washed the pan a few months ago, but didn’t realize it was still a little wet. Due to the time frame, the water oxidized and that is why it is black.
She also hypothesized that the pressure and heat of the trapped water caused it to boil over.
Moving on to the foil discourse, Smith defended not using the kitchen item. She claimed that repeated use was wasteful. On the other hand, as she noted, humans had not used foil for centuries before its invention.
However, there was one criticism that she did understand. That was because she only had seven nuggets in the pan. Smith agreed that she should probably invest in one, although she found herself making a chicken-ceaser salad wrap.
Still, she said she appreciated the back and forth and apologized for “triggering” people.
“But let this be a lesson to you,” she continued, “so if you ever find yourself in a double-insulated pan, make sure you get all the water out or the pan will explode on you.”
Philadelphia Eagles Chicken Nuggets flopped even harder
This is not the first nugget-based disappointment recently found on the internet.
In September, Tyson introduced so-called Eagle-shaped chicken nuggets. This was part of a broader NFL promotion highlighting some of the league’s most popular teams.
In addition to the Eagles chicken nuggets, other themed nuggets were also rolled out in tribute to the Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers.
But when TikTok user Bailey (@bailohay218) placed the nuggets on a griddle to cook them, she noticed something unusual.
“I thought I’d surprise my friend with eagle-shaped nuggets, but they don’t give a bird…” text on the screen reads.
Meanwhile, TikTok itself shows off the disappointing appearance of the gold nuggets, as they are crude in shape and barely fit the description of an eagle – or any bird for that matter.
