Donald Trump’s latest White House renovation plan includes 200-year-old structure


Ongoing rumors suggest so Donald Trump may have set out to renovate the 200-year-old White House pillars. Although the White House did not provide a confirmation, it said only that it is undergoing basic repair work. This development comes days after the president appeared to inspect the columns for six minutes after returning from Arlington National Cemetery.

White House columns to be renovated

Speculation about a potential pillar renovation started when workers were seen working on them last week. Since then, many believe that the renovation plan in the White House may also include the iconic columns. Rumors also suggest that Trump could change the style of the columns, from Ionic to more ornate Corinthian. This idea was previously proposed by Rodney Mims Cook Jr., chairman of the United States Commission of Fine Arts. The columns appeared to be freshly painted when Trump went to the presidential retreat in Maryland.

In an interview with Washington PostCook Jr. proposed a makeover of the White House’s main entrance. He revealed why he thinks the Corinthian would be an appropriate choice, adding: “The Corinthian is the highest order (of column) and that’s what our other two branches of government have. Why the White House didn’t originally use them, at least on the north front, which is considered the front door, is beyond me.”

A White House official recently addressed the ongoing rumors, clarifying that the pillars are currently undergoing repair work and will not be completely replaced. “The north portico columns are currently undergoing standard restoration work. This is to repair stone in the columns,” they said (via PEOPLE).

This comes just days after the president was over for check the bars support the White House. He carried out his inspection for a full six minutes, touching the pillars and pointing to them. At one point he also summoned the staff to talk about the columns and take pictures of them.
