In a brand new interview with People This week, Cyrus revealed that she suffered a severe case of sepsis in 2024, leaving her hospitalized and facing a terrifyingly uncertain future.

An even more heartbreaking experience occurred in the same hospital where his mother, ruth annDied two years ago in 2022. Reflecting the emotional weight of that moment, Cyrus shared this People: :

“I don’t know exactly how it developed. It was my worst nightmare. Two years before that, my mother died in the same hospital, on the same floor as me.”

According to the singer, the illness suddenly became so severe that his entire body was swollen. At one point, doctors reportedly even advised him to get his affairs in order. Which, uh, what?! It’s not like warning anyone Sometimes Wants to hear.

As if that challenge wasn’t enough, Cyrus later faced another major hurdle when she was diagnosed with vocal paralysis in 2024. For an artiste whose career revolves around singing, the diagnosis raised painful questions about whether he would ever be able to return to music.

Cyrus says that the song became his source of strength when he was going through the worst period of his life. He also got unexpected inspiration from his young grandson, Bear. he explained:

“At this very broken moment in my life, my little grandson Bear looked at me and said, ‘Try again.’ And until that moment, he had never spoken to me. I wasn’t even sure if he knew my name or not. At that moment I thought, ‘He’s telling you something.’ Is it about love? music? Somehow, I had to try again at both. So I’m learning to try again.”
