Carmelo Anthony’s punishment A disturbing new layer of controversy has just emerged.

just a few days later Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prisonThe father of slain teen Austin Metcalf took to social media to share his thoughts on the verdict.

And instead of offering his condolences to Carmelo’s parents or invoking compassion and empathy, as many expected, Jeff Metcalf is fanning the flames of racial hatred.

During an appearance on Sarah Fields’ “Jinxedsip” podcast, Metcalf went on a rant, much of which was filled with truly shocking bigotry.

Metcalf begins by telling Carmelo’s father, “Andrew Anthony, you are crazy and a coward, and you raised one.”

Then he turned his attention to Carmelo’s mother and said:

“Kala, you’re drunk. What did you do to that boy that he stabbed someone? Oh my God, what kind of mother are you?”

Austin then turns his attention to someone named Kevin Hayes, who reportedly wants to fight him.

He refers to Hayes as “the only person in your family without a record,” then says, “I think that’s something to brag about in your culture.”

It’s at that point that the rant becomes even more blatantly racist:

Metcalf says angrily, “You guys hang your hat on the nastiest thing I’ve ever seen.”

“Let me make something racist so you all can go viral. I found a new name for ‘Mello’… How about ‘Watermelon Felon’? How does that strike you?”

Metcalf then taunts Kala and Andrew about Carmelo’s future:

“I hope he enjoyed his first night in that cell last night. Because he’ll have many nights to think about what he did.

Metcalfe then made a dubious claim, saying:

“I forgave him so that I wouldn’t harbor hatred and anger. So that I wouldn’t be consumed. Like cancer, it kills you from the inside.

“So when people ask me, ‘How can you forgive him?’ If I hadn’t done this, I would have killed him and gone to jail myself.”

When discussing the Anthony case, it’s important to keep in mind that we’re talking about two sets of parents grieving the loss of two promising young lives.

Austin Metcalfe died at the age of 17. Carmelo Anthony will be almost 40 before he is eligible for parole.

It all happened over a momentary dispute at a high school track meet.

The situation is almost unfathomably tragic, and despite his claims to the contrary, we have no doubt that Jeff Metcalfe is consumed with outrage over the senseless circumstances of his son’s death.

But none of this excuses him for making the situation even more frightening and dangerous by encouraging racial hatred towards the Anthony family.

The reaction to Metcalfe’s comments has been predictably negative, but sadly he’s already found quite a few supporters in the darker corners of social media.

In other words, he has succeeded in making a terrible situation even worse.

We will have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.
