It is thought Sarah will now enjoy a few weeks off before taking up her lucrative new job next month. It was announced in April that Sarah was set to replace Scott, who was fired from the top job in March following allegations made about his personal conduct.
At the time, there was speculation as to who would replace the star, who also hosted the Eurovision Song Contest for the BBC.
But an insider told The Sun that Sarah was the obvious choice. “Sarah has been handed the top job and it’s official, she is the new host of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show,” he said.
The source added: “This is something the BBC has always prepared for her and she couldn’t be more excited to take on this role.”
Scott was removed from the broadcaster after fresh information emerged about the 2018 police investigation.
Along with his radio position, Scott was also forced to step down from his role in the spin off podcast of Race Across the World, a show in which he was crowned the winner in the celebrity edition in 2024.
Addressing her new role, Sarah said: “There really aren’t enough adjectives to describe how I feel about being trusted with such an iconic show, but let’s start by being delighted, honored and incredibly happy. Hosting the breakfast show has been a dream since I joined Radio 2 and this feels like a full circle for me.”
She added: “I’ve had the most amazing seven years of my career on Teatime, so thank you to my brilliant Teatime listeners, who will hopefully be joining me at Breakfast for excellent music and all my usual nonsense, as well as some superstar guests. I honestly can’t wait to wake up the nation with the biggest and funniest Breakfast show ever.”
According to the Mail on Sunday, it was reported in May that Scott was prepared to take legal action against the BBC.
The publication claimed that the TV and radio personality believes he was unfairly dismissed and also reported that his legal team at law firm Level Law was in contact with the broadcaster at the time.
