during an appearance on good morning britainShe revealed that she has recently undergone several health assessments, looking to maintain her health as she ages. Carroll told presenters Kate Garraway and Ranveer Singh that although it was generally “reassuring”, his fitness rating emerged as “average”.

She said: “I recently had a bunch of mature health assessments. Now, I did it because, for me, the best is still yet to come. I want to live life well into old age. I want to be healthy. I want to do all the things we’ve planned. Travel is a big deal.”

She added: “And I decided it was probably a good idea to check my health now rather than waiting until something went wrong. And I’m so glad I did because it was really reassuring.”

Carroll said: “You know, I thought my cholesterol was going to be terrible because my body is full of chocolate. It’s no temple. But my cholesterol was fine.”

However, she admitted: “And I thought my fitness would be really good… I walked a lot and exercised. But it was average. So I was really disappointed.”

“It shows you have to look at life differently, doesn’t it?” Kate said. “That’s right,” Carol replied.

“And there are some good statistics from research that show 41% of us think life will be good as we get older. So we’re all looking forward to being healthy, active, independent, that’s a great thing too.

“But only 12% of us think about one of these health assessments when we think something is wrong. So to me, prevention is much better than cure.”

Opening up about how much her life has changed since leaving the BBC, Carol said: “I used to be up all day and go to bed between 7pm and 8pm, so that’s changed. And now having an evening, we can go out and work.

“But the good thing that’s really changed is that Steve and I used to see each other for about four hours a week between Sunday and Thursday. So now we’ve got our own evenings. And it’s really nice.”
