For several weeks/months, I have detailed my disbelief about the reporting surrounding Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s marriage. I truly believed that Taylor and Travis were running some kind of misinformation campaign to hide their real wedding plans. The reporting was absurd – a wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York? On or around the Fourth of July?? Come on, this is totally fake, isn’t it? Wrong. That was actually the plan this whole time. The reporting was correct. This was not a misinformation campaign. mayor mamdani had the inside scoop Too, as it turns out. The NY Times confirmed that all signs are pointing towards an MSG wedding on July 3. Good Lord.
One of the biggest events of the summer is still a mystery: When and where are Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce getting married? Some strong clues are emerging.
A permit was filed in New York City to close the streets around Madison Square Garden from the afternoon of July 2 to the afternoon of July 4 for an event on July 3, according to three people with knowledge of the matter. Several members of the Kansas City Chiefs have booked hotel rooms at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square for dates around July 3, according to a person briefed on the accommodations.
A fourth person, a city official who was briefed on the preparations, put it more bluntly: Madison Square Garden plans to host the wedding festivities on July 3.
Vinik Productions, a major event planning company that has helped organize major red carpet events including Madison Square Garden, filed an application with the city’s Street Activity Permit Office in early June. The company requested the authority to set up a tent or awning outside the grounds for the event, which it said would accommodate 500 to 999 attendees. It also said trucks would need space to load and unload materials on the field. A representative for Vinik Productions, which is based on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, declined to comment when contacted by a reporter Tuesday.
But Amtrak police officers, who patrol the station below the grounds, have been told to expect a Swift wedding over the July 4 weekend. Such an event would bring a spectacle to Midtown Manhattan during an already busy tourist season. On July 4, the annual fireworks show in Lower Manhattan for the country’s 250th birthday will be larger than usual, and a fleet of tall ships from around the world will sail into New York Harbor. The city has also seen an influx of spectators for the FIFA World Cup, and a game is scheduled for 5 July.
…Surely Ms. Swift can pull off a tricky trick. But New York City agencies are moving forward with the expectation that a larger Swift event will take place on July 3, people with knowledge of the plans said. Although the playground may seem like an unusual wedding venue, it is popular for grand events, including musician Sly Stone’s 1974 wedding.
And there are obvious attractions for Ms Swift: The venue’s highly controlled and windowless environment offers security and privacy, and, with reports of plans for a custom stage, it would be an ideal setting if Ms Swift or her celebrity friends wanted to perform. The arena has a separate entrance and ramp that allows black cars to bring in celebrities.
The pair will also be able to control the images coming from the program in a way that would be difficult to do in an open space. There has also been speculation that the Garden may not have been the actual wedding venue. The couple can exchange vows elsewhere ahead of time and use the venue for the reception.

The NYT is trying to hedge its bets, saying that despite the permits and the preparations by city workers, it could all still be a hoax. But I don’t think Taylor and Travis will do *that* much to throw people off the scent. I think this is actually happening at MSG. Taylor Swift is actually going to have her wedding in the garden. This is nonsense. I’ve already seen Swifties attack anyone who criticizes their queen’s taste levels, but I think it’s totally legitimate to ask why the hell Taylor Swift decided to rent out the garden for her wedding. I think it’s an acknowledgment that no matter what happens, the whole thing will be a circus.
