Pitt actor reveals tonsil cancer diagnosis at age 46

“This has been the most terrifying and mind-blowing experience of my life. My life has been one of terror, meditation, tears and medical planning (oh and jokes about the 12 hour days on set).”

He then said he was in pain but hopeful: “I’m in pain and I’m in the middle of a very difficult process. It’s going to be a long summer. But the good news is that the cancer I have has an incredibly high cure rate (in the 95% area). I’ll find out next week whether or not I need radiation, but regardless I’ll be fine and be a good person as soon as possible.”

He also joked that he got cancer from sex because it is part of the HPV virus, and then said on a serious note: “I am so grateful that I have a life that is worth living and can have a baby this Father’s Day.”

He said he could not believe he managed to make a film while doing so, but praised director Judd Apatow, saying he could not have been more “supportive”.

He also said it was his “worst nightmare” because his father died from “a completely different cancer… that was less treatable than this cancer,” which he “found on his neck.”
