As for Cassie’s decision to join the site, Sweeney said she felt her character was “more excited by the idea that all these people love her and know who she is and make them feel like their world isn’t small.”
In real life, most OnlyFans creators are just trying to make grocery money. But some – like Cassie – are after validation more than money.
Sweeney recalled of showrunner Sam Levinson, “He sent me all the scripts and it already had all of Cassie’s scenes, the OnlyFans scenes.”
“And he called me later, and he was talking about it, and we talked about all this,” she continued.
“He asked me how I felt about it,” Sweeney shared. “And I told him, ‘Look, I’m playing a character.’
Sweeney added: “Do I agree with all of Cassie’s decisions? Would I personally make these choices? No, absolutely not.”

“But I’m an actor and that’s my job,” Sweeney argued. “And this is Cassie’s life.”
She continued: “And to be able to do him justice and play him the way he should be played is bringing Sam’s vision to life.”
Sweeney explained, this meant she “wanted to play Cassie in the most vulnerable and crazy way possible.”

“That’s why I love acting,” he said.
“The whole point of acting is to be able to play all these different characters,” Sweeney said. “It wouldn’t be fun to play yourself.”
