Reece Weaver continues.
In the third season of America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, the favorite DCC team member announced she was leaving the team. The move stunned viewers, who wondered what was behind the choice, and what was next for the powerhouse dancer.
Reece struggled with the decision to leave DCC
Reece, 24, spent three years cheering for the Cowboys at their games, but also in Netflix’s popular reality series about the country’s most iconic group of pom-pom shakers. But she felt it was time to move on,
“I’d actually been struggling with this decision since the beginning of my third year. My cup was just filled to the brim, and I was in a place — I’m still in that same place — of genuine gratitude. With a lot of prayer and counseling, I just felt led, that I was being called to take a leap of faith,” she explained to Netflix’s Tudum.
Leave DCC and American sweethearts gives Reece the freedom to explore other passions – including writing a book – and career options.
“During the offseason, I was really able to say yes to a lot of opportunities that I normally have to say no to because we’re in the season,” she explained. The more I thought about the new opportunities that so kindly came my way, I think my heart was ready to move on to the next phase of life.
Reece also mentioned the “constant pressure” that comes with social media, including immediate criticism and negative feedback after every match or performance.
What’s next for the ‘America’s Sweethearts’ star?
The Florida native also wanted to spend more time with her husband, Will Allman. The couple married in 2024, shortly before American lovers premiered on Netflix and made Reece an instant star. Shortly afterwards, Will quit his job to focus on managing his wife’s career. But that move sometimes made their marriage feel more like a “business partnership,” he admitted this season.
Now that her days are no longer filled with practicing and filming for reality TV, Reece and Will have time to focus on their relationship. The couple has already left Texas and returned to Alabama, where they are “a lot closer to family,” she said. (Reece and Will met while attending the University of Alabama.)
In addition to working on her book and pursuing other opportunities, Reece has said she hopes to return to her dancing roots.
“I actually grew up as a studio dancer. I followed more of the conservatory path in dance… I really miss my upbringing in dance,” she said. One of my dreams was to be on Broadway. I don’t know if that will ever happen, but I would love to get back to the kind of dancing I grew up with.”
Whatever the future holds, Reece is looking forward to it. Some fans have speculated online about her departure from DCC, wondering if she is leaving due to an injury she suffered last season or if Will pressured her to give up cheering. But she says it’s all noise and she feels confident in her choice to move forward.
“There are a lot of opinions people will say about us, but we know not everyone will understand,” Reece said. People. “And that’s a really hard concept to understand, but we know that we have each other and we have a great support system around us.”
