She said yes!
Olympic swimming superstar Ryan Lochte has taken a big step in his relationship with his girlfriend of the past 14 months, Molly Gillihan. According to TMZ On Friday night, the athlete popped the question after just over a year of dating, and the proposal sounds like it came straight out of a romantic movie scene. (And she said yes, btw! Ha!)

The engagement reportedly took place on Prime and Pearl restaurant in Gainesville, Florida, according to the outlet — a location that apparently has special meaning to the couple. The news organization reported that Lochte got down on one knee at the restaurant, which was also said to be the location of their very first date, so there’s some serious history in there. Photos obtained by the outlet reportedly showed the newly engaged couple embracing and sharing a celebratory kiss after the big moment.
The setting itself also seemed carefully planned! Red petals created a path leading to the couple’s table, while roses and candlelight helped create an intimate atmosphere for the proposal. Gillihan was also photographed showing off what appeared to be an oval engagement ring with a gold band.

Of course, the milestone of a happy relationship already generates a lot of conversation, because it comes for a while Lochte’s divorce from estranged wife Kayla Reid is still ongoing.
As we previously discussed, Reid filed for divorce in March last year after seven years of marriage. The former couple shares three children together: Caiden, AliveAnd Georgia.
After the split, Reid made several public comments that seemed to shed light on the difficult circumstances around the end of their relationshipwhich at several points suggests that ‘betrayal’ played a role in the breakup.
The situation became even more public earlier this year when Reid appeared to suggest it on an episode of her podcast The comeback era that Lochte and Gillihan’s connection may have started long before their relationship became public. She claimed the couple had been ‘happy for a long time’ and suggested they had known each other for years.

Meanwhile, Lochte has also faced personal struggles in recent years. Last September he revealed on Instagram that he went to rehab and celebrated 54 days of sobriety, saying he was in a much happier place in his life.
The former Olympic champion and Reid have also exchanged public comments during the divorce process, so things have NOT been simple or easy in that regard.
