WARNING! THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS ABOUT THE ROAD HOME SERIES FINALE!The series finale of The way home airs June 21, but the Hallmark Channel is treating fans to a sneak peek at one of its key scenes. The way home premiered in January 2023, and since then the time travel drama has become a fan favorite. Despite this, in November 2025 the network announced that The way home the fourth season would be its last.
During the penultimate episode of The way home“Auld Lang Syne,” Kat Landry (Chyler Leigh) and Elliot Augustine (Evan Williams) found themselves in grave danger when they found themselves in the Lingermore Tunnels just before the famous 1926 explosion, which the lyrics of a classic Port Haven folk song described as five people going in and four coming out.
But today, Rita (Marnie McPhail) revealed to Jacob (Spencer MacPherson) and Del (Andie MacDowell) that the true story was that four bodies were identified and the fifth was never found. In 1926, just before the dynamite went up in flames, Tessa Cooper (Megan Follows) fired a gun and Elliot jumped in front of Kat and was shot in the shoulder. In the 1980s, Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow) saw Fern (Jill Frappier) tell young Tessa (Kelsey Falconer) that she was going to kill her son, leaving fans wondering if Elliot was going to die.
The Way Home Series Finale Sneak Peek Teases Elliot’s Fate
On YouTube, Hallmark Channel shared a sneak peek of the season finale titled “Ahead by a Century,” where Kat and Elliot have escaped the tunnels and are headed to the pond. Both Alice and Jacob arrive separately in 1926 to help them, running into each other as they emerge from the magical water.
The clip begins with Alice walking away from the pond, then turning to see Jacob behind her. She seems surprised to see him and says: “Jacob?” to which he replies, “Alice, are we here? Is it 1926?” Alice replies, “You know the truth about the explosion that…” but Jacobs interrupts and says, “More people died than just one.” Alice replies, “No. No, no, no. The pond brought us both here for a reason. We can’t be late. Come on.”
Kat then reaches the pond, dragging Elliot with her. she says “Just a little longer.” Alice shouts, “Mother!” Jacob states, “We have to get him home. Kat! Now!” A shocked Cat says, “How are you doing here?!” and then, “Wait, no!” as Jacob pulls Elliot away. Alice then hugs her mother and says: “It’s okay,” while Cat cries “Is he breathing? I didn’t see him breathing!”
Alice reassures Kat by saying, “He’s going to be okay. He has to be. Come on.” Jacob then jumps into the pond with Elliot as Alice and Kat look on.
Kat is left behind in 1926
After Jacob takes Elliot with him into the pond, Alice and Kat take a break to make sure they don’t show up again. They then run to the pond themselves and jump together. However, Cat reappears, hits the water and screams, “No! No!” It seems that the pond allowed Jacob, Elliot and Alice to travel in time, but for some unknown reason it keeps Kat in 1926.
Sneak peek The way home series finale doesn’t give a definitive answer as to whether Elliot lives or dies, but it seems that Jacob was able to bring him to safety. While it is possible that the pond could take them to an earlier time period, it is more likely that they will return to the present day where he can get the medical attention he needs. However, it is very intriguing that the pond did not allow Kat to go back with Elliot. The way home has been a fascinating journey since it began, and this sneak peek proves that the show will have an epic conclusion.
The 90-minute series finale of The way home will be broadcast on Sunday 21 June at 9pm ET on Hallmark Channel.
