Tim Allen evokes his character’s age gap relationship To change gear is borderline creepy.
73-year-old actor Matt Parker is dating Jenna Elfman‘s Eve Drake, who is about 20 years younger.
In a new interview, the Toy story 5 The star recalls being concerned about the on-screen romance in his ABC comedy, though he notes it’s “not much different” than he and his wife, Jane Hajduk.
“It depends on the pictures. At a certain age it gets creepy for me (and) we’re right on the border,” he said We weekly. “Like Jenna didn’t look so damn nice, then our age difference isn’t that big. I just let my hair go natural and she looks – especially on camera – quite young.”
“They say if you’re better lit, and I say, ‘If I’m better lit, I probably look 68’” Tim say. “I just don’t want to be creepy about it – and that’s kind of the limit these days.”
“It hasn’t really come out yet, except when they joke about, ‘Well, a guy your age.’ If she makes jokes about it, that’s not my preference. But I said, ‘It’s admitting what’s there,'” he continued. “There are times — and I’ll give it to them — when they lit well and wore the right clothes so it doesn’t look creepy.”
Tim notes that he just wanted “a car show about a widower to deal with grief,” but goes with the flow Jenna‘s character was introduced.
“They put this romance in there and I know it Jenna so I said, ‘That’s not the problem. I just feel way too old for her.” Sometimes they say, ‘Visually it doesn’t look the way you think,'” he said.
Now he’s interested to see where the characters go after seeing the reception to the relationship, which was turned off and then turned back on toward the end of season two.
“She’s so fun to be with and it’s brought out a whole different part of that show and brought a different audience to that show,” Tim shared. “I’m really there for the car guys and I make sure the car stuff is fun and exciting. Then the office is cool and now you have romance for the people who want it. Because the flirting and the actual activity between these two characters turns out to work, I said, ‘Okay, I’ll go there.’ (Jenna is) really good at this and the romance happens more or less by accident.”
If you missed it, To change gear has been confirmed to return for a third seasonalong with more ABC renewals.
